Akbars: An Indian restaurant

Akbars

About Akbars

Akbars is a restaurant located in on Sauchiehall street near Charing cross. It specialises in south Indian dishes with a range of classic curries. From the inside the restaurant looks modern and was surprisingly large in size. It has expanded in growth overtime starting with a 28 seater restaurant in Bradford to now having over 10 restaurants located across the UK with over 300 staff and 60 chiefs. It has attracted the likes of many celebrities and famous people such as Amir Khan and Boris Johnson. The restaurant looks clean and modern and I believe it’s a great place to enjoy a meal.

What Akbars offers

Akbars offers a variety of different Indian dishes including starters, Baltis, and chief specialities such as Jalfrezi and Lamb Shank. The prices range from person to person but on average a single person can expect to spend anywhere around 15-25 which I believe is reasonable when taking into consideration the quality of food, the amount of food and also once compared to other places that offer similar meals. There is also a drinks and desserts menu, they offer soft drinks and mocktails and also a range of desserts with a price range of around £5-£6.

What I tried personally

Personally I went for challenge 1. Akbars offers 2 challenges on the menu, challenge 1 which is a challenge that requires you finish the whole meal, as the difficulty being trying to finish the “gigantic” naan they give you with your meal which consists of a large meat feast Balti and a portion of Pilau rice. I managed to complete this challenge and as stated was rewarded with a free dessert. There is also challenge 2 which consists of eating the hottest dish the kitchen can make, and again if completed a reward of ice cream would be offered.

Overall experience

My overall experience with Akbars has been great. It is defiantly one of my favourite Indian restaurants I have tried before and all of my friends seem to agree that everything from service to food was great.
